The Bedford Townhouse is a boutique 12-bedroom hotel in the heart of Limerick City. Lovingly restored, with original architectural features and stylish modern touches, this heritage townhouse provides an experience which is truly out of the ordinary.
The Bedford Townhouse is a family-owned business, operated by husband and wife team Peter & Denise Brazil. The mission statement of the hotel is to provide a truly unique guest experience, one that is grounded in the following areas of experience – Heritage, Design, Limerick, Wellness and a commitment to Customer Service Excellence..
The Bedford Townhouse is named after Bedford House, which was built c.1830. As with most buildings of this time, Bedford House was originally two Georgian townhouses, once home to Peter Tait, former Limerick Mayor and founder of the Limerick Clothing Factory, which started operations right here in the mid-nineteenth century.
This rich history and industrial connection to the building has been reignited in the creation of the Bedford Townhouse (you may have noticed that our logo is based on a needle and thread, inspired by the heritage of Bedford House). You will see many references to this history throughout the property in our mix of classic and contemporary decor and artwork.
With this combination of old and new, we hope to give you a warm and stylish home while you explore our wonderful city of Limerick.
Bringing an old and new world together was the starting point of our interior design journey. Working with the talented designer Tullio Orlandi, this vision was brought to reality. The residence feel of these Georgian townhouse has been restored with some contemporary twists.
Woven textures and fabrics are noticeable through the guest bedrooms and common areas which are a nod back to the clothes making history and traditions of Bedford House. Enjoy the many little touches such as The Carrington phones, Buster + Punch ironmongery, Christian Lacroix rugs.
All of these touches and many more provide a unique setting and all the luxury of a five-star hotel experience.
Limerick is the lady of The Bedford. The Brazil Family want to ensure that every guest that stays at the hotel makes the city and county of Limerick part of their experience.
Whether it is your first visit to Limerick or you are native local, the story of the Treaty City is on display throughout the Townhouse. Each of the 12 guest bedrooms which are named after Limerick’s landmark and traditions – many of which guests can walk to just a few minutes from The Bedford’s front door.
In the Parlour Room downstairs, The Bedford Row Heritage Trail tells the story of Bedford Row and the many businesses which operated on this street over the last 200 years, step back in time as you walk through this trail and soak up Limerick’s history.
