A New Food Festival to Savour This September

This September, Limerick is set to burst into life with flavour, fun, and festivity as the city welcomes Flavours of Limerick, a brand-new food festival celebrating the region’s vibrant culinary culture.

Running over four days, the festival will showcase the very best of Limerick’s food scene with an exciting programme of tastings, live demos, family-friendly activities, and immersive food experiences. From hidden dining adventures to open-air street feasts, the city will come alive with opportunities to taste, explore and celebrate.

Supported by the Mayor of Limerick’s Mayoral Fund and delivered by Limerick City and County Council, this inaugural festival is set to highlight the people, produce and places that are putting Limerick firmly on the food destination map.

Festival Highlights

Thursday 18th – Mystery Dinner

Kickstarting the festival is an exclusive, one-night-only Mystery Dinner in a secret city location. Guests will only learn the venue hours beforehand, before being guided to a unique atmospheric setting where top local chefs will deliver a menu full of bold flavours, locally sourced ingredients and plenty of theatrical flair. Tickets are limited, so early booking is essential.

Friday 19th – Street Feast

Nicholas Street will transform into a lively pedestrianised street party. Expect food stations, live music and local flavours taking centre stage. In partnership with Culture Night, this free community event invites everyone to join the celebration of food and culture.

Saturday 20th – Sing-a-long Picnic

Families are invited to People’s Park for a fun-filled day featuring larger-than-life characters, picnic zones, and plenty of sing-along moments to keep children (and adults!) entertained.

Sunday 21st – Sunday at the Milk Market

The festival closes at Limerick’s iconic Milk Market, where celebrity chefs including Trisha Lewis and Tom Flavin will host live cooking demos. Visitors can enjoy tastings, workshops, and explore a specially curated line-up of local food stalls.

Beyond the Main Events

Alongside the four pillar events, Flavours of Limerick will host a series of intimate fringe experiences, including:

  • Traditional Tea Ceremonies

  • Guided Tasting Trails through local cafés, delis, and restaurants

  • Whiskey Tastings in historic venues

  • A curated Wine & Cheese Experience hosted by local experts

Whether you’re a passionate foodie, a family looking for a fun day out, or a curious visitor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy across the weekend.

A Celebration of Limerick’s Food Identity

Mayor of Limerick John Moran highlighted the festival’s importance:

“Growing up on a farm I was always conscious of Limerick having such a rich tradition in food. Whether it’s menus like these at civic events or festivals like Flavours of Limerick, we want to continue to enhance Limerick’s visibility as a food destination.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, added:

“Flavours of Limerick is a tantalising prospect set to bring a whole new energy to our city this September… I look forward to this inaugural festival setting a benchmark for years to come.”
